About Kidney Disease

Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD), which is said to affect 800 million people worldwide, is estimated to affect one in five adults in Japan and is becoming a new national health challenge.

In Japan, measures against kidney disease have steadily progressed in terms of healthcare delivery systems, workforce development, and treatment environments. The number of new dialysis patients has been declining since 2020. However, due to the impact of population aging, this decline has been limited, and the number of patients remains at a high level. In addition, annual dialysis-related medical costs amount to 1.57 trillion yen, which makes it important to reduce the number of people who need dialysis in order to control healthcare spending.

At HGPI, we aim to promote kidney disease countermeasures from the perspective of patients and those directly affected. We are strengthening cross-sector collaboration both domestically and internationally, while making policy recommendations.
